By February of that year, most American airlines had suspended flights to China due to fears about the coronavirus. In the next month, the CAAC slashed international flights to China, citing the need to curb imported Covid-19 cases. Despite the two sides amending their rules after negotiations, the number of flights between the United States and China still fell significantly during the pandemic. We look forward to once again welcoming Chinese group travel to the United States,” she said in a statement issued at the time. In June, Reuters reported that newly approved flights by Chinese airlines were indeed avoiding Russian airspace on their way to the United States.

Former President Donald Trump is a polls guy. He’s currently languishing in fourth place, according to polls, behind Trump, Florida Gov. “In 2016, we experienced the phenomenon of the silent Trump voter, those who were secretly for Trump but feared being ostracized if they said so publicly,” he wrote. “A majority of the party is Maybe Trump,” Ayres says. A separate New Hampshire primary poll from Monmouth University and The Washington Post taken Nov. 9-14 shows similar results.

Richard J. Riordan, a Queens-born lawyer, businessman and former mayor of Los Angeles who led the city at a particularly divisive time and brought a free-enterprise approach to rebuilding the city’s infrastructure after a devastating earthquake in 1994, died on Wednesday at his home in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles. Mr. Riordan, whose unfiltered speech occasionally got him into trouble, began his career in business and turned to politics later in life. He was elected mayor in 1993, in his first effort at electoral politics, and served until 2001, prevented by term limits from seeking a third term. A moderate Republican, Mr. Riordan came to politics in 1992, when it became clear that Tom Bradley, the Democratic five-term incumbent mayor, would not seek re-election. Mr. Riordan, then 62, was encouraged by friends to run, in part because of his solid ties across the political spectrum.
Starbucks on Thursday reported quarterly earnings and revenue that fell short of analysts' expectations as weak international demand weighed on its results. However, Starbucks now expects negative same-store sales growth in China through the fiscal second quarter, followed by a reversal of the trend in the second half of the fiscal year. Globally, its same-store sales rose 5%, driven by a 7% increase in average transaction spend. In the U.S., Starbucks saw same-store sales growth of 10%, thanks to customers spending more and a 1% bump in traffic. Outside its home market, Starbucks' same-store sales shrank 13%, dragged down by China's dismal performance.
Our answer is yes, we would make a very small trim — 50 shares of our 750 share position in Starbucks (SBUX) — if we were not restricted from trading. This speculation hit the stock hard that day because China is a huge growth opportunity for the coffee retailer. SBUX 1Y mountain Starbucks (SBUX) 1-year performance There is a lot to be bullish about in Starbucks' future, but a lot of that good news is starting to get priced in. The city's homelessness crisis, both an incubator for street crime and a corollary to skyrocketing housing costs, touches almost every facet of life in L.A., even when it's just a backdrop. Bass vowed Sunday to attack it head-on by declaring a citywide state of emergency, an idea that had been circulating through City Hall since at least 2015. Bass is promising a new day and inspiring L.A.'s guardians to forget about the bickering, at least for a moment. "Where there’s will, there’s women," she said. "And where there’s women, there’s forever a way."
U.S. Rep. Karen Bass has been elected mayor of Los Angeles, NBC News projected Wednesday, making her the city's first female to hold the role. Caruso spent about $100 million on his campaign. “With my whole heart, I’m ready.”Bass is a former community organizer who became the first Black woman speaker of the state Assembly in 2008. She's the first Black woman and second Black person to be elected mayor of the country's second most populous city. The first Black mayor, Tom Bradley, held the job from 1973 to 1993.
LOS ANGELES, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Karen Bass, a Democratic U.S. congresswoman, was projected on Wednesday to beat Rick Caruso in the race for Los Angeles mayor, becoming the first woman to lead the nation's second-largest city. Caruso, a former Republican, also ran as a Democrat in deeply liberal Los Angeles, and the hard-fought campaign was too close to call until a full week after Election Day. Bass was heavily outspent by Caruso, a 63-year-old billionaire who reportedly used more than $100 million of his own money in the campaign. She succeeds outgoing Mayor Eric Garcetti, a Democrat and son of Gil Garcetti, the man who prosecuted O.J. Tom Bradley, the first Black mayor of Los Angeles, served two decades in the job, from 1973 to 1993, and the international terminal of Los Angeles International Airport was named after him.

There have only been two Black elected governors in US history, but that could change on Tuesday. With the victory, Wilder became the first Black elected governor in the United States, generations after P.B.S. He said people brag about him as the first Black governor elected in America. However, this year, Black gubernatorial candidates weren't overly reliant on the party leadership to help them land the nominations in their respective states. At the end of the day, if that's what I accomplished, that's not enough," Moore told Insider.
Estimates were for 4% global growth and 8% in the U.S. China sales dropped 16%. The Q4 operating profit margin contracted to 12.2% from 19.7% in the year ago period due largely to China store closures. Starbucks says it plans on opening a new store every nine hours over the next three years. About 10 years ago, the average China consumer drank less than 3 cups of coffee a year, according to Starbucks. Another key reason behind Starbucks' aggressive China expansion plans is the expected return on investment in its stores.
